Late Thirteenth Century Baluster Jug; Paris Region.

Late Thirteenth Century Baluster Jug; Paris Region.

This fine baluster jug potted from rich red clay can be attributed to the workshops of the Parisian suburb Essonne.

The form is particularly pleasing and comparable to early metal wares. Certainly made for the table, such jugs would be used for drinking wine from.

An added pleasure to this example, is the antiquarians label with ghostly scrawl, belonging to the eminent nineteenth century historian, Maxime Legrand of Etampes.
