Eighteenth Century Needlework Picture; Initialed and Dated; Probably Scottish.

This petit point picture of wool and silk, exhibits a dance of flowers and foliage, very much in the manner of Indian Chintz design of the period.

Curiously, the design is stitched with four sets of initials, MR, MR, IM, CS, and the date 1767, tucked in amongst the foliage.

It is unusual to find multiple sets of initials; this is typically idiosyncratic to Scottish samplers for representing fellow family members. With this in consideration it would seem appropriate to suggest a Scottish attribution.
