A Pair Of Seventeenth Century English Silk Embroideries, c.1650.
This pair of early English silk embroideries have all the charm and artistic sensibility of a talented individual.
Richly stitched in fine coloured silk and bead work, both embroideries mirror one another with a playful symmetry evoking the classical world and animalia.
What is striking, and indeed visionary, is the choice of colour. Here we have a palette introducing madder reds and indigo blues, composed in a manner rarely seen in this type of seventeenth century embroidery.
Both housed in period walnut frames.
