Seventeenth Century English Silk & Silver Sweet Bag, c1675.
This so called sweet bag, is remarkable on account of its state of preservation; it was probably intended to house a keep sake or wrap a gift of fragrant flowers, rather than to be used as a daily pocket for money.
Its pleasing, fine symmetrical floral design, is embroidered in silk and silver threads, displaying a statement of fashion and luxury for this period.
