Eighteenth Century English Delftware Plate with Lotus Flower Boarder; London, c.1720.

Amongst the more common eccentric chinoiserie’s from the eighteenth century English delft repertoire - one finds from time to time something that might be best described as chinoiserie chic.

This is one such example; a central motif of calligraphic bamboo and flowers with a highly unusual lotus flower boarder. The economy of design and line is a triumph, and indeed a sight for sore eyes.
