Medieval; Fifteenth Century Inlaid Floor Tile; Bishop of Worcester Armorial, c.1475 - 1500.

Medieval; Fifteenth Century Inlaid Floor Tile; Bishop of Worcester Armorial, c.1475 - 1500.

This bold armorial device, with its four pales, chevron argent, three crosses crosslet, and bishops mitre can be confidently attributed to John Carpenter, Bishop of Worcester (1443-1476).

The Bishops tile design is found in various counties across England and Wales; and although not confirmed, it would seem appropriate to place an attribution to the Malvern tile makers, Worcestershire.
