A number of shipwrecks are rumoured to languish off Great Yarmouths east coast. In recent years the discovery of the legendary HMS Gloucester exposed a time capsule filled with seventeenth century treasures, including a large number of Bartmann jugs - This makes maritime gossip of Yarmouth shipwreck finds most alluring.
Our jug acquired directly from an east coast fisherman has all the hallmarks of a Bartmann lost at sea, with perhaps an attribution to HMS Gloucester on the horizon.
