Eighteenth Century Queen Charlotte Commemorative Creamware Tea-Pot ; Staffordshire, c.1770.

Teapots commemorating Queen Charlotte are somewhat of a rarity, with this example as far as I know being an unrecorded type.

Interestingly, the decorators depiction of the queen seemingly references a number of painted and printed portraits of the queen with added artistic license.

Although without an inscription ; the careful treatment of the charming details such as the wide eyes, pearl necklace, feathers and extravagant hair are firm visual attributes of the Queen from this period that echo the official portraits of her .

Queen Charlotte’s heritage over the years has been of great debate ; with some scholars suggesting her of African descent from a Portuguese lineage, a notion that has created a fascinating discussion both in Great Britain and the United States.
