Eighteenth Century Queen Anne Westerwald ‘AR’ Jug; c.1710.

An Eighteenth Century Queen Anne Westerwald ‘AR’ Jug; c.1710.

The lesser spotted ‘AR’ jug in all its glory - A fine example with its globular form and sensuous decoration of cobalt tendrils and flowers; marked clearly ‘AR’ and crowned for Anne Regina.

Queen Anne’s reign was short but significant in British royal history which reflects in the rarity of these jugs.

This specific design type, manufactured in westerwald commemorating the English queen, is really the prototype for the widely exported ‘GR’ jugs that were to follow throughout the eighteenth century.
